Sports and Exercise Medicine

1.  Outpatient Sport Clinic: At Summit orthopaedic and sport medicine, our sport physicians are experienced in the management of sport injuries both amongst elite and recreational athletes.  This clinic is dedicated to Initial assessment, investigation and treatment of spot injury. In addition, we are dedicated to optimising  performance through nutrition and psychological intervention

2. Pre-Medical Assessment: We are involved in providing standardised pre-competition and pre-contract medical screening tailored to meet individual needs.  Primarily, these screenings are important to make sport participation safer. Other reasons include: assessing status of known injury and illnesses, screening for risk factors, reviewing medications and supplements, baseline testing and athletes education. These assessments include:

a.      Cardiac Screening: Consist of the following elements:

·         Targeted cardiovascular history

·         Detailed physical examination

·         Interventions such as electrocardiograph (ECG) and echocardiograph(ECHO)

b.      Laboratory test: Helps to screen for unknown illnesses or subclinical medical conditions that may negatively have an impact on performance.  

c.       Physiotherapy and functional assessment

d.      Comprehensive medical injury questionnaire

e.      General medical and musculoskeletal assessment

3. Medical coverage and team travel: We provide bespoke medical coverage for major sporting competitions, school/college inter-house sport and other recreational events. In addition, we also provide consultancy medical services for team travels. These entails, but not limited to equipment and travel logistics, fitness to travel assessment, jet lag management, medicine/drug management and immunisation

4. Exercise Medicine Clinic: According to World Health Organisation (WHO), physical inactivity is said to be the 4th leading risk factor for global mortality. Consequently, the research in support of physical activity in the management of Non-communicable diseases (such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and some cancers) is robust and promising. Our aim at Summit Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is to reverse physical inactivity related NCDs using bespoke physical activity interventions. Our team of practitioners are equipped to provide patient centered exercise prescription. Exercise prescription entails:

·         Clinical assessment

·         Risk stratification

·         Motivational interviewing

·         Exercise progression and follow up
